No. It has a focused rich-text editor, but it is a guided book-production application rather than a general-purpose replacement for Microsoft Word.

The initial release is Windows desktop software. The closed beta is not yet an open public download.

You do not need Word to build the project or generate the DOCX. Word or a compatible application is useful afterwards to inspect final pagination, update fields, make manual changes or save a PDF.

Yes. The result is an ordinary editable DOCX with Word-native styles and fields wherever practical.

Not in the current release. You can open the generated DOCX in Microsoft Word and save a PDF yourself if you need one.

No. EPUB is a possible later product phase, not a current feature.

That depends on the publisher and the current requirements for your chosen service and book. Check those requirements before submission; Manuscript to Book does not certify a file for a publisher.

No. The templates and defaults are informed by book-interior conventions, but publisher requirements can change and the customer remains responsible for checking them.

No. The core manuscript-processing workflow does not use generative AI to write, rewrite, edit or train on your manuscript.

Yes. You can export the structured Markdown, work with the external tool of your choice, then import compatible Manuscript to Book Markdown again. AI is optional, never imposed.

It is a versioned, human-readable representation of the project that preserves supported metadata, sections, chapter order and formatting. It contains image references and metadata, but never image binaries or base64/data-URI images.

Stage 1 project content is stored locally by the Windows application beneath your Windows application-data area. Account and entitlement records are separate and do not require manuscript content.

No. Manuscript text, titles, chapter titles, section content, images and ISBNs are prohibited from analytics events.

Free lets you build and review a complete book, save locally, use supported design tools and Markdown import/export, and generate a restricted Word sample.

It permanently unlocks full Word-document generation for one specific book project, including later revisions of that same project.

No. It is a permanent licence for that book, not a per-download fee.

It remains permanently licensed for full export even if prices change or a Pro subscription later ends, subject to the published terms and legitimate refund or chargeback handling.

Pro allows full Word-document generation across multiple eligible books while the subscription is active. It is designed for prolific authors and professionals who work on books regularly.

Your projects and local manuscript content remain yours. Permanently licensed books stay licensed; other projects return to the free export restriction when the paid Pro period ends.

The closed beta currently concentrates on 6 × 9 inches. The full Stage 1 target also includes 5 × 8, 5.25 × 8, 5.5 × 8.5, 6.14 × 9.21 and 7 × 10 after each has passed acceptance.

It is the most useful size for proving the complete customer journey first. Concentrating the beta avoids implying that unverified template sizes are already ready for customers.

Not currently. Structured Manuscript to Book Markdown import is supported; arbitrary DOCX manuscript import is a later candidate and has no promised date.
